Our Mission
Touch Lives for the Better
Here at GO, we value the well-being and success of our employees. As a rapidly growing company, we believe in the power of teams and making sure there’s always some fun sprinkled in. Our commitment to Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (ED&I) creates an environment where you’ll be celebrated and valued for who you are. Join us in our mission of Touching Lives for the Better by increasing affordable food access, reducing food waste and providing opportunities for entrepreneurs to start their own local business. We think it’s pretty great!

OUR VALUES

Achievement
Our history demonstrates a relentless drive for achievement, continuous improvement, and exceptional results. From humble beginnings as a standalone military surplus store, we have grown into the nation’s largest extreme value retailer, boasting an impressive network of over 450 stores across multiple states. Serving a vast community of 1.5 million shoppers, our unwavering commitment to excellence has fueled our remarkable growth and success. We take pride in our ability to push boundaries and drive results, showcasing the power of ambition and dedication.

Million Raised
We exist to serve others and the communities in which we operate, exemplifying our commitment through various initiatives. Our annual Independence from Hunger food drive supports over 400 local partners throughout the communities we serve. The campaign collects food and cash donations in-store, online and from our corporate office, and has resulted in over $20 million in donations since it’s inception in 2011.

Diversity
We drive change through our commitment to Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (ED&I). Our ED&I Council aims to create an inclusive culture which supports all identities and aims to make sure our employees can bring their whole self to work every day. We believe in celebrating and empowering our employees and our Employee Resource Groups (ERGs), such as the WOW! Network and the Black Partnership Network (BPN), are essential in doing so. We believe diversity of thought is essential to our team and company’s success, and we strive to make a meaningful impact on the lives of our employees and our community through our ED&I efforts.

Family
We nurture strong relationships to create a safe space where everyone can be themselves. We work to maintain and nurture an environment where everyone is heard, from the communities we serve, to our Independent Operators and our employees at our corporate office. Our differentiated operating model allows our stores to be owned and operated by families within their communities and gives them the opportunity to grow with us.

Fun
We celebrate our victories and don’t take ourselves too seriously. We believe that fun is crucial in fostering a positive work environment for our employees. From team-building activities to engaging, fun events, we ensure that our employees have ample opportunities to unwind, bond and celebrate shared achievements. We understand that a lighthearted atmosphere promotes creativity, making work not just productive but also enjoyable.

Entrepreneurship
We innovate and take calculated risks to drive business forward. Through our Summer Internship Program, we invest in the future by providing opportunities for aspiring talent to gain hands-on experience and contribute new perspectives and ideas to our organization.
We believe in encouraging our employees to envision their career journey as an entrepreneurial venture. By providing opportunities for growth and advancement, we empower individuals to take ownership of their professional journey. And, through our differentiated operating model, we offer aspiring operators the opportunity to own and operate their own store while maintaining their autonomy and independently make decisions in their community.

Integrity
We do what’s right, not what’s convenient, creating an environment where employees feel supported and safe to voice their opinions and concerns which helps us to continuously improve the employee experience. We regularly assess employee needs through engagement surveys and promote honest constructive feedback. We support our employees’ health and well-being by valuing work-life balance and allowing flexibility in work. We have an on-site gym and provide access to mental health resources. These initiatives have resulted in a positive work environment and our opportunistic buying model also works to reduce food waste by purchasing and selling food that could otherwise go to waste while giving communities access to affordable, healthy foods.
Life at Grocery Outlet
Hear from our employees:
“I joined Grocery Outlet seven years ago after falling in love with the mission, vision and values of the company. Seven years later, I am still surrounded by smart, kind and driven coworkers and that is what keeps me at GO. Even with incredible growth, it’s been wonderful that GO has been able to maintain a culture of family, fun and entrepreneurship while expanding rapidly. Ultimately, we know that what we’re doing every day supports our Independent Operators & Communities to touch lives for the better and that’s what makes it a fulfilling place to work.”

Life at Grocery Outlet
Hear from our employees:
“I’ve stayed at GO for the people I get to work with – both at GO and the IOs. I also love the entrepreneurial spirit our culture expresses… being able to creatively control my business in the manner I see fit under a loose set of rules and guidelines. I love the collaboration amongst departments. Entrepreneurship is the question of “what can we do without being worried about failing?” We then take those learnings and risks and continue to grow and look forward to what can we accomplish.”

Hear from our employees:
“Something I learned early on is that Grocery Outlet really cares for their people, from corporate employees to IOs to customers and their communities. The company culture here is special and unlike any other company I’ve worked with. I feel valued and appreciated every day. I love the people that I work with because we constantly support and lift each other up. A lot of your lifetime is spent working so I think it’s worth going for a company that values community.”

Hear from our employees:
“I was drawn in by the excitement of an amazing growth journey and being able to directly impact that was incredibly enticing. But it was the company culture that made me realize that I just had to be part of this organization. A lot of companies talk about culture but Grocery Outlet lives it. Our entrepreneurial spirit and sense of community permeates throughout the organization and we give back to the community in a more genuine and meaningful way than anywhere else I have ever been in my career. This is the place I want to be and could not be more proud to be part of this great company.”

Hear from our employees:
“I started at Grocery Outlet as in intern after being introduced to them at my college’s Career Fair. After graduation I returned with a full-time role, drawn to the unique culture the company has. Grocery Outlet’s values can be seen throughout every level of the company, and I love that with my job I am helping to “touch lives for the better”. The company truly embodies the value of Fun not only through its employees, but also through various events such as fundraising carnivals and in-office events that bring the community together.”

“I decided to work at Grocery Outlet because I needed a place where I could learn and grow. I have stayed at Grocery Outlet because I felt valued and heard for the first time since joining the workforce. I started in the stores under an Independent Operator then moved into the Operations side of corporate for some time and finally worked my way into the Purchasing Department, the amount I have learned in these last 4 ½ years has been extraordinary and I am grateful.”
