Grocery Outlet, which opened today in Costa Mesa, calls itself the “T.J. Maxx of food” because it sells name brand grocery basics at deep discounts.

“What Grocery Outlet offers doesn’t exist in the (Orange County) marketplace,” said co-Chief Executive Eric Lindberg during a preview event Wednesday night at the store.

During a store tour, guests scoured the aisles for top deals – some marked down as much as 50 percent off. Click on our slideshow to check out the some of the deals that caught our attention – from gourmet cheese to craft beer to a sack of apples.

The Costa Mesa store is at 1835 Newport Blvd. It opened today at 10 a.m. All other days, the store opens at 8 a.m.
